About - the Founder

As a young man the founder, Trevor Dodd, had a passion for wood crafts and a longing for travel to exotic countries.  Born and raised in the United Kingdom, he spent his early years in King’s Lynn, a small Norfolk town with a proud maritime history. Trevor spent countless hours with his Grandfather Gerald who as well as being a local character of some notoriety, was a master boat builder.

To this day, many of Gerald’s hand crafted boats still operate out of King’s Lynn’s fishing fleet. Others they created went to ‘homes’ in all parts of the globe.

After a few years working in his home town, his itchy feet took him to London and employment with a US Information Systems company. He was selected for an assignment in Iran in the late 1970s, and with subsequent brief stays in the USSR and South Korea, this marked the beginning of a rich cultural experience.

Trevor went on to live and work in Scandinavia during the early 1980s before being invited to join a small international marketing team being formed on the east coast of the US. Here, he was responsible for marketing to a myriad of subsidiaries, joint ventures and distributors in all parts of the world and traveled extensively. He was fortunate to have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of diverse cultures and pursue his new hobby of collecting artifacts from many of the countries he visited.

In the early 1990s his career took him to Hong Kong and new experiences working with such diverse territories as China, Korea, Taiwan, India and all of South East Asia. He also lived and worked in Malaysia and Singapore before returning to the US in 1999.

While in Asia, Trevor and his wife took every opportunity to explore the cultures and art of the many fascinating countries within easy reach. They developed a passion for Bali in Indonesia and during frequent visits there became familiar with the culture, the artisans, the work ethic - and collected more artifacts.

Trevor and his wife Debby live in Southern California. The Cultural Artifacts hobby became an online business, specializing in woodcarvings and other craft items which we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
